Bangladesh’s Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan MP attended the 25th assembly session of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO) on 11 October at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Headquarters in London. The Minister attended session covering issues like Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), contract and reappointment of the Director General of IMSO. In the second session the first ever Bangladeshi Director General of IMSO, Captain Moin Ahmed was re-elected as the Director General of IMSO for the next phase. He first took charge of the office in April 2015 elected with overwhelming majority. The Shipping Minister delivered his speech after this re-election. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh in London, Md Nazmul Quaunine was also present at the session.
The International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO) is the inter-governmental organisation whose primary purpose is the oversight public satellite safety and security communication services provided by mobile satellite communication systems. They also act as the International Long-Range Identification Tracking of Ships Coordinator worldwide. Bangladesh has been an active member of IMSO for the last few years.
